School Board Recognition

In Kansas and dozens of other states, school districts take time during the month of January to honor local school board members during School Board Recognition Month. The purpose of School Board Recognition is not only to celebrate the contributions of our local board of education members but to also build awareness and understanding of the vital function and value of an elected board of education (BOE).

BOE members are local citizens--your friends and neighbors--who volunteer hundreds of hours and an immeasurable amount of energy to assure that Hesston schools are providing the best education possible for children of our community. They always have the best interest of students in mind.

BOE members establish the policies that provide the framework for our schools. They represent all district patrons, and take this responsibility seriously by attending regular and special meetings; attending conferences where they can broaden their knowledge about education and educational issues; and by attending to numerous conversations about our schools and programs.

Hesston USD 460 invites all local citizens to take a moment to tell a BOE member, "Thank you for caring for our kids." Current USD 460 BOE members are Phil Diller, Layne Frick, Ben Hershberger, Sara Jantz, Ryan Jelle, Susan Lamb, and Jerry Mininger.
